Background

UPDATE - JANUARY 2021 Council has finalised the detailed design for the Noosa Parade corridor upgrade and the detailed design has been approved by TMR. Council is pleased to announce that the Department of Transport and Main Roads awarded a $2.23m Cycling Network Local Government Grant, to contribute to 50% of the construction of the Noosa Parade upgrade. Council look forward to delivering an improved Noosa Parade that is safer for residents and all users, and will contact affected residents and businesses early in 2021.

Council’s project team are preparing the final layouts and drawings to show locals how the upgrade will look when it’s constructed, which will be available on this site in early 2021.

Noosa Parade Upgrade Plan

Noosa Parade forms part of the SEQ Principal Cycle Network and is arguably one of Noosa’s busiest routes for pedestrian and cyclist activity. This activity is driven by its location within the tourist accommodation precinct and proximity to Hastings Street, Noosa Main Beach, and the Noosa National Park. Congestion is notorious along the road during weekends and school holidays.

The 1.2km major upgrade will provide improved and safer access for all road users by:

  • reducing the speed limit to 40km/h
  • providing dedicated and continuous on-road cycle lanes in both directions
  • upgrading the northern pathway to 2.5m wide and 3m wide where possible
  • upgrading the southern pathway to 1.5m wide
  • providing eight mid-block pedestrian refuges
  • installing improved LED lighting.

Works will also include enhanced landscaping and new trees that will provide extra shade and improve visual amenity.

Consultation on the design is now closed. Council thanks the community for the feedback received. To view the project’s history including previous consultation and concept designs, please see the document library.
