Consultation has concluded
This consultation has now closed and the final delivery of the project is complete. Thank you for all your input which has helped shape this project for the community.
A multi-phase community consultation process was undertaken during 2014 to identify a revised management arrangement for the Noosa Biosphere® Reserve. The aim was to find a model that would facilitate a community-based approach to delivery of initiatives that would support the biosphere reserve functions as defined under the UNESCO Man and Biosphere (MaB) program. After considering community input, Council decided to establish a public trust with a trustee company responsible for managing the Trust.
In January 2015, the Noosa Biosphere® Reserve Foundation Ltd (the trustee) and Noosa Biosphere Reserve Public Trust were established. The Trust purposes are closely aligned with the UNESCO functions for biosphere reserves. One of the aims of the Trust is to provide funding for initiatives that support the Trust purposes and further the Noosa community's aspirations to continue to strive for a sustainable future, to work together to build economies, communities, and knowledge and to ensure our natural ecosystems and biodiversity is valued, cared for, improved and conserved.
While Council is the founding member for the Foundation company, it does not own the Foundation and has only one elected member on the Foundation Board so that the entity is independent from Council.
For full details of the Trust and the Foundation Board of Directors please visit - Noosa Biosphere® Reserve.
At a public meeting held on 19th March, 2015 a steering committee was appointed to develop a constitution for formation of a community-based incorporated association. The association is intended to be an avenue for the general community to become involved in activities associated with the Noosa Biosphere® Reserve. The steering committee has announced that the Association is to be named Noosa Community Biosphere Association. The Association is expected to be established by September, 2015. The association is also separate and independent of Council. Address any enquiries to - NoosaCBA@gmail.com
