The Noosa Aquatic Centre (NAC) is Noosa Shire’s flagship aquatic facility and plays a critical role in meeting the physical activity needs of many residents and visitors to the Shire.
Each aquatic facility in the Shire has unique offerings, with amenities tailored to meet the specific needs of its location, its users and its proximity to complementary sites. To inform proposed upgrades to the NAC, Noosa Council has completed a needs assessment and demand analysis in the first phase of the process, which identified public aquatic facilities currently servicing the Shire and future requirements for built aquatic infrastructure over the next 25 years. We then spoke to key stakeholders such as sporting groups to gather their thoughts on user demand and needs. We also drew from data on national benchmarks from UniSA CERM PI data (https://www.unisa.edu.au/research/cermpi/).
A draft NAC Facility Upgrade Plan has been prepared taking account of the findings from the needs assessment and demand analysis, industry trends and additional input from key NAC user groups. The Upgrade Plan aims to guide a thoughtful and compliant transformation of the NAC over the next 20 years, ensuring the facility continues to serve the community's needs into the future.
What's changing?
A snapshot of the major highlights of the Facility Upgrade Plan include:
Upgraded 50m pool, including a new filtration system, dividing infrastructure to enable multi-use and a new shade structure to the northern end.
New and upgraded inclusive changerooms and amenities.
Upgraded water play elements.
Upgraded, larger creche, gym and retail space.
Upgraded administration and cafe building.
New Wellness Hub including allied health rooms, exercise studio, courtyard and inclusive amenities.
New multi-purpose room.
New covered spectator grandstand and upgraded spectator shelters.
New and upgraded car parking and bike storage.
Upgraded storage.
Upgraded signage and landscaping.

Some of the facility developments included in the plan will require significant investment. Staging implementation of the plan will allow capital expenditure to be distributed across several years and will enhance opportunities to access external funding. The inclusion of elements in the NAC Upgrade Plan does not represent a commitment from Noosa Council to deliver all proposed improvements, works or upgrades as these elements will be subject to budget and further feasibility investigations. Elements of the Upgrade Plan provide indications of future improvements or enhancements only, and are not a guarantee of implementation.
