Noosa Transport Strategy 2017-2027

Consultation has concluded

This consultation has now closed and the final delivery of the project is underway. Thank you for all your input which has helped shape this project for the community.

Following significant community consultation, including stakeholder gatherings, pop-ups and more than a thousand submissions, Council has adopted its Noosa Transport Strategy 2017-2027.

Noosa's transport vision is one where "Noosa Shire enjoys and efficient, free flowing, innovative transport system that enhances resident and visitor experiences, and results in sustainable environmental outcomes"

The Noosa Transport Strategy 2017-2027 proposes the following strategies over the next 1-2 years (2017/18 & 2018/19). (See document library for a copy of the Final Strategy)

  1. Investigate Park-and-Ride services and conduct a detailed study to determine the demand, preferred location, and likely capacity of a successful Park-and-Ride facility with links to shuttle services.
  2. Subject to investigation, and in keeping with the Noosa look and feel, introduce car parking management controls (e.g. paid parking) in congested areas. Paid parking may allow for variable controls for residents and non-residents, peak and off-peak periods, and paid and free parking at Park-and-Ride facilities.
  3. Subject to discussion with TransLink, trial a high frequency Noosa style shuttle bus to service key destinations.
  4. Implement Walk-and-Ride to Schools Programs, with supportive schools that experience significant traffic and congestion issues.
  5. Investigate the feasibility of priority transport lanes for sustainable transport modes (buses, bicycles, scooters, electric vehicles etc.).

The first stage of engagement on the Noosa Transport Strategy 2016-2036 is almost complete. Stakeholder engagement was undertaken by consultants Parsons Brinckerhoff, consisting of a stakeholder briefing and survey. The stakeholder survey closed on Monday 25 January 2016.

If you haven’t participated in the community survey yet, there’s still time – it closes on Sunday 31 January 2016. Click HERE to go straight to the survey.

Survey results and feedback from stakeholders and the community will be collated and reviewed by Parsons Brinckerhoff in the coming weeks. This information will help shape the 20 year vision for the Transport Strategy.

    The next stages are:

    · Develop 10 year strategies to achieve the vision.

    · Draft 5 year action plans to achieve the strategies.

The second stage of stakeholder and community engagement will occur on the 5 year action plans.
