What is Noosa’s Draft Destination Management Plan?

As Noosa’s popularity continues to grow, so do the pressures on our environment, infrastructure, and community wellbeing. To ensure tourism remains a positive force for our region, Noosa Council is developing a community-led Destination Management Plan (DMP). This long-term strategy puts community values and environmental care at the heart of the visitor economy.

You can read the draft DMP here. There are also a series of Fact Sheets that explore some of the key issues in more detail.

A Community-Driven Vision

The DMP is more than just a strategy - it’s a commitment to protect what makes Noosa special. It’s about ensuring tourism supports - not compromises - our lifestyle, environment, and cultural identity. Like other iconic destinations, Noosa is feeling the strain of increased visitation and changing travel behaviours. But our response can be uniquely Noosa: thoughtful, regenerative, and community-first.

Community Voices at the Core

In September 2023, Council conducted extensive engagement, gathering more than 3,000 pieces of feedback from residents, businesses, and Traditional Owners. The message was clear: the community wants change—and a shift toward tourism that regenerates, not just sustains.
