When will the future of the Butter Factory be known?

Council aims to complete the review project by December 2014. The implementation of any new model would be dependent on many factors including possible refurbishment work, commitments to existing exhibitions and the establishment of a new management model.

What is the purpose of this project?

Noosa Council wants to ensure that it is meeting the needs of the community and making the best use of the facilities that it provides. This project will consider the Cooroy Butter Factory and explore possible options for the future use of this facility.

What does Council want to see the Butter Factory become in the future?

Council is very open as to the future of the Butter Factory and is enthusiastic about working alongside the community to brainstorm and explore new ideas and concepts. It is important to Council that any future Butter Factory use has the support and involvement of the community and is found to be viable.

The criteria for any future use is that it:
    • will be used for community purposes
    • adds to the vibrancy of the Lower Mill Site and Cooroy and complements existing facilities
    • is viable and achievable, not just a pipedream
    • has the support of the Cooroy community
    • has involvement from community members

What will happen after the end of the current exhibition program?

An exhibition and workshop program is scheduled until January 2015 and will then be scheduled for up to 3 months at a time. Ordinarily exhibitions are scheduled at least 12 months in advance however if the Butter Factory is going transition to a new use or require some closure for refurbishment works then we don’t want to disrupt a forward planned exhibition schedule.  The exhibition schedule for January – March 2015 will be developed by October 2014.

How will Council continue to support the Butter Factory into the future?

Council is keen to see greater community involvement in this asset but understands that issues like building maintenance may be too much of a burden for a community organisation. Council therefore is not intending to withdraw support from the Butter Factory completely and anticipates that a partnership model is likely to feature. What form this may take is yet unknown and dependent on the future direction of the Butter Factory.

Is Council going to sell the Cooroy Butter Factory?

Noosa Council has no intention of selling the Cooroy Butter Factory. Council recognises that the Butter Factory is a much-loved community asset and wishes to work with the community to explore future options for the use of the facility.
